San Angelo Traffic Ticket Dismissal

If you received a qualifying traffic ticket in San Angelo, you may be able to request a Driving Safety Course through San Angelo Municipal Court. The court states that the request must be made before the appearance date listed on the citation, either in person or in writing.

San Angelo lists several eligibility requirements. Generally, you must have a valid Texas driver’s license, insurance in your name or on the vehicle involved, and must not have taken a Driving Safety Course for a traffic offense within the previous 12 months. The citation also cannot be for speeding 25 mph or more over the limit, and commercial driver’s license holders are not eligible under the listed requirements.

Certain other violations are excluded, including leaving an accident scene, failing to provide information at an accident scene, fleeing or attempting to elude police, reckless driving, passing a school bus, and certain construction-zone offenses.

San Angelo Defensive Driving Course Cost

San Angelo Municipal Court currently lists a $144 court cost for a Driving Safety Course request. If the offense occurred in a school zone, the listed court cost is $169. These are court-related costs and are separate from the cost of the defensive driving course itself.

Our online defensive driving course is available for $25 enrollment, giving eligible drivers an affordable online option for completing the required course.

How the San Angelo Defensive Driving Process Works

1. Review Your Traffic Ticket

Start by checking your citation and identifying your appearance date. San Angelo Municipal Court states that traffic citations generally require an appearance within 15 calendar days from the citation date.

2. Check Your Eligibility

Make sure your violation and driving history meet the requirements for a Driving Safety Course. Not every traffic violation qualifies.

3. Request Court Approval

Request permission to take the course before the appearance date on your citation. San Angelo allows the request to be made in person or in writing.

4. Provide Your Driving Record

San Angelo’s requirements include a certified driving record showing that you have not taken a Driving Safety Course during the preceding 12 months. The court also requires an affidavit confirming that you are not currently taking another course.

5. Complete the Online Course

After receiving approval, complete your TDLR-approved defensive driving course online. San Angelo specifically allows approved Driving Safety Courses to be completed online.

6. Receive Your Certificate

After successfully completing the course, obtain your course completion certificate for submission to the court.

7. Submit Your Documents

San Angelo gives approved drivers 90 days to complete the course and return their driving record and certificate of completion to the court. The court states that there are no extensions on this 90-day period.
