Job Description
The Curator will support the Museum’s purpose by offering leadership in increasing academic and public knowledge of the history and importance of photography. They will collaborate with colleagues in various areas of the Museum, from Curatorial to Advancement to Public Affairs to IT.
Requirements:
- Retains abreast of modern historical literature and interpretative best practices, stays abreast of cutting-edge research and new historical arguments, and looks for chances to incorporate current historical knowledge into programming.
- Conducts negotiations for repository agreements and gift deeds. Assesses gifts and purchases, handles loan agreements, and guarantees policy compliance.
- coordinating large-scale international exhibits and publications, doing research, overseeing show preparations, and procuring loans, among other responsibilities.
- Aid with the volunteer program of the museum system, particularly in the areas of recruitment and placement of volunteers in appropriate positions, as well as ensuring that volunteers get enough training.
- Produce peer-reviewed essays based on independent research into computer history, including design, technology breakthroughs, cultural impact, and historical significance.
- Participates in all elements of the day-to-day collection management responsibilities. Antiquities, paintings, and records are among the resources that the museum collects, preserves, and restores.
- Participating in the long-term creation and preservation of collections and related information.
- First-contact public services are provided via phone, email, and in person. This position is responsible for describing procedures and obtaining references. Meets departmental standards for timeliness, accuracy, and completeness. In compliance with departmental policy, interactions are documented in records.
- Serve the cognitive, physical, and social/emotional needs of various audiences in order to guarantee that the museum system continues to strive for diversity, equality, accessibility, and inclusion through its programs, personnel, and public encounters.
- Develop and maintain good proactive connections with other municipal departments, outside suppliers, programming partners, and educational institutions.
Skills:
- The capacity to operate as part of a team, build and maintain great working relationships with employees, volunteers, and members of the general public has been shown.
- The ability to communicate with both internal teams and external stakeholders in a clear and effective manner; familiarity with public speaking; and a thorough understanding of museum best practices.

- Exhibits knowledge or skill in the development of metadata and the construction of digital collections, finding aids and other archive description elements.
- Experience in museum work or a closely comparable field that was equal to four years of college education is required.
