Senior Manager – Strategy & Business Intelligence

JOB PURPOSE:

To assist the Director of Strategy and Business Intelligence in defining, developing, and executing EGA’s strategy. This will involve:

  • Formulating the Group’s long-term strategy, considering global market and industry megatrends, and regularly tracking and refreshing such strategy
  • Independently leading the structuring and delivery of multiple strategic / value capture projects in coordination with relevant business areas
  • Initiating and driving the implementation of business development activities, as well as other Ad-hoc projects that will come to the Strategy team
  • Managing the performance of some of EGA’s international assets
  • Defining and developing the corporate and departmental annual performance scorecards, in-line with the company’s strategic objectives

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

EGA Strategy

  • Develop in-depth industry and market insights to be able to identify global trends that could have implication on EGA’s business
  • Assist the Strategy team in developing the overall EGA strategy, by independently leading and delivering dedicated workstream from such strategy development work
  • Syndicate results and ensure clear alignment across EGA senior management
  • Ensure the delivery of EGA’s strategic priorities by communicating strategy to internal and when appropriate external stakeholders
  • Provide support on executing strategic initiatives to functional teams, and track progress on such initiatives
  • Translate strategic objectives into company-wide business objectives and performance KPIs

Value capture

  • Structure, orchestrate and independently lead multiple strategic projects (in parallel) that enables the execution of the EGA strategy and delivers value to EGA, in coordination with the relevant business owners and teams. Projects will cover all business areas of EGA and include both top and bottom-line improvement initiatives
  • Lead problem definition and solution structuring, independently draw conclusions / recommendations, and present to top management for approval
  • Form strong relationships built on accountability and trust with key senior stakeholders
  • Support Board Committees (ExCo, FCC, Board etc.) to address core business issues and to provide management with necessary guidance

Business Development

  • Originate and develop new business development opportunities in-line with EGA’s strategic objectives. Independently lead advancement of such opportunities from prospective lead stage to approval stage by EGA top management
  • Within each transaction / project, drive negotiations with counterparties and closely participate in commercial and legal discussions until transaction closure
  • Syndicates with internal stakeholders, independently prepare delivery of final approval packs to board committees

Leadership

  • Manage the effective achievement of departmental objectives through the leadership of the Strategy department.
  • Set individual objectives, recruit qualified staff, manage performance, develop and motivate staff, provide formal and informal feedback and appraisal – in order to maximize subordinate and departmental performance
  • Manage multiple teams on different projects simultaneously, including managers, associates and analysts, ensuring that the work is effectively distributed based on individual capabilities allowing them to grow
  • Ensure that associates / analysts are coached on problem solving fundamentals and toolkits, based on clearly defined objectives and development plan

Authority/ Decision making:

  • Lead multiple strategic initiatives and independently draw conclusions and insights to make actionable recommendations to EGA top management

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Business Administration/ Finance/ Strategy or related specialization

Minimum Experience:

  • 10+ years relevant work experience including roles within Strategy or Finance, with positions of progressively increasing managerial responsibilities
  • Experience in a top consulting firm is a required

Skills:

  • Solid background in strategy development and implementation
  • Experience in Business Development
  • Ability to take critical decisions independently
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills exhibited by the ability to approach complex and ambiguous business problems
  • Experience in heavy industry / manufacturing, preferably within metals and mining
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Excellent meeting facilitation skills and presentation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work peer to peer with senior executives
