• Facilitates (do you do more than set up meetings and conversations?)
• Administrates (clerical jobs love this because it sounds more managerial)
• Assists (assists who by doing what, exactly?)
• Works with (see “assists”)
• Makes sure (Other people do the doing, you make sure they do it all?)
• Directs (do you give direction to people so they can do the job or do you actually direct the work itself?)
• Ensures (see “makes sure”)
• Oversees (Are you a lookout for the iceberg or do you change course to avoid it?)

Requirements:

• When you have done your own job description, submit it to your boss for approval and tell him/her that you have always worked with a JD to define the job, duties and responsibilities.
• It will help define the job as well as making objectives clear.
• It will assure that during an appraisal that both parties are talking about the same thing. It wouldn’t hurt to also define performance standards but it would be enough of an accomplishment just to get a ‘JD’ written and approved for now.
