Job Purpose:-
The role supports the Safety Training Group Manager in facilitating Bahri Ship Management’s safety and behavior-based training programs. Responsibilities include identifying and addressing competence gaps through skill coaching, ensuring effective onboard safety training, and managing the scheduling and attendance of Safety Training Officers (STOs) for ship visits. Additionally, the role involves coordinating STO travel, tickets, and accommodations, collecting and analyzing feedback data, assisting with conference presentations, and providing general support to the Safety Training Group (STG) team as needed.
Key Accountabilities:-
Strategy and Planning
- Assist STG Manager with developing short- and long-term joining plans for the company STO within the context of their rotation.
- Continuously monitor STO onboard / leave activities.
- Assist the STG Manager to continuously monitor and assess the effectiveness of the strategies and departmental processes.
- Provide support to department staff in implementing the strategies and achieving safety training, behavior-based assessment skills, and coaching goals.
- Assist in developing vessels’ Training Plan.
- Monitor and report on the progress of vessels’ training plans and STO rotations.
- Assisting with ensuring that all departmental processes and activities are aligned with the safety training and behavior-based skill coaching strategy.
Compliance Monitoring
- Collate safety training results and statistical data of OASIS from the Manager / Superintendent and coordinate with STOs, using the following techniques:
- Collect and organize safety training results and statistical data from the Manager / Superintendent.
- Coordinate with Safety Training Officers (STO’s) to schedule training onboard and ensure follow-up on attendance.
- Manage the attendance of shipboard training officers on ship visits and schedule their visits to ensure maximum and efficient utilization.
- Coordinate with the Manager and teams to ensure that all logistical requirements for training are met, including securing a vessel, following up on attendance, and evaluating training activities conducted.
- Manage the department conference participation.
- Keep records of the training activities, results, and feedback provided to shipboard training officers and share it with the Manager.
- Continuously monitor and assess the effectiveness of the safety training.
Process Implementation
- To perform the role of OASIS Coordinator and positively promote the OASIS process among BSM employees, using the following approach:
- Communication and coordination to ensure smooth implementation of the OASIS process.
- Provide support and guidance to employees on how to participate in and benefit from the OASIS process.
- Monitor and report on progress and results related to the OASIS process to the Safety Training Manager.
- Ensure that standard operating procedures and instructions are clearly defined, understood and followed.
- Monitor and assess the process results and work with the behavioral-based Safety Administrators to achieve a systematic and consistent data analysis application.
- Communicate and coordinate with behavioral-based Safety Administrators to ensure smooth implementation of the BBS process.
- Monitor and report on progress and results related to cascading department objectives and staffing to the STG Manager.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor degree or equivalent qualifications in a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in maritime crewing or maritime safety training, or a related role.
- Familiarity with maritime crewing standards, STCW 95, ISM Code, health and safety and other relevant
- safety standards and maritime regulations.
