Data Scientist – Smart Center for Distribution Power

We are seeking a Data Scientist to support the development and enhancement of our newly established Smart Center within the Distribution Power Division. This Smart Center is designed to monitor, automate, and analyze smart devices throughout our distribution infrastructure, including smart electricity meters, electric vehicle charging stations, and distributed solar systems. The Data Scientist will play a crucial role in extracting and analyzing information from various sources to evaluate the performance of the distribution power infrastructure through the Smart Center. The role involves applying statistical and analytical methods, as well as AI tools, to automate processes and develop smart solutions for business challenges. The ideal candidate will interpret data, analyze large datasets, and present findings through dashboards and automated reports, supporting management in making informed decisions.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Data Mining: Extract and utilize data from valuable sources.
  • Machine Learning: Use machine learning tools to select features, create, and optimize classifiers.
  • Data Preprocessing: Perform preprocessing of structured and unstructured data.
  • Data Collection Enhancement: Improve data collection procedures to capture all relevant information for analytics.
  • Data Integrity: Process, cleanse, and validate data to ensure its integrity for analysis.
  • Pattern Analysis: Analyze large datasets to identify patterns and solutions.
  • Prediction Systems: Develop prediction systems and machine learning algorithms.
  • Result Presentation: Present results clearly through dashboards and automated reports.
  • Solution Proposals: Suggest solutions and strategies to address business challenges for the Smart Center.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with Business and IT teams.

Key Skills Needed:

  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as R and Python, and database query languages like SQL, Hive, and Pig. Familiarity with Scala, Java, or C++ is a plus.
  • Statistics: Strong applied statistical skills, including knowledge of statistical tests, distributions, regression, and maximum likelihood estimators.
  • Machine Learning: Knowledge of machine learning methods such as k-Nearest Neighbors, Naive Bayes, SVM, and Decision Forests.
  • Mathematics: Solid understanding of Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra for predictive performance and algorithm optimization.
  • Data Wrangling: Proficiency in managing imperfections in data.
  • Data Visualization: Experience with visualization tools such as TIBCO Spotfire (essential), and other tools like matplotlib, ggplot, d3.js, and Tableau.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent ability to convey information effectively.
  • Software Engineering: Strong background in software engineering.
  • Data Science Tools: Hands-on experience with data science tools.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong aptitude for solving complex problems.
  • Analytical and Business Acumen: Analytical mindset with a strong sense of business strategy.
  • Education: Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of proven experience as a Data Analyst or Data Scientist.
