ole Overview – American University in Sharjah is hiring a Senior Accountant for a full-time, on-site position based in Sharjah. This position is ideal for experienced accounting professionals with strong financial expertise, higher education accounting knowledge, and the ability to manage accounting operations effectively, ensure regulatory compliance, maintain financial accuracy, provide financial analysis, and support organizational financial management within a dynamic educational institution environment. Financial Statement Preparation and Reporting – You will prepare comprehensive financial statements including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements in compliance with IFRS standards and UAE regulatory requirements. You will ensure statements are accurate, complete, and prepared within required timeframes for management review, stakeholder reporting, and regulatory submission with appropriate disclosures and educational institution-specific presentations. General Ledger Management and Control – You will manage and maintain the general ledger by recording all financial transactions, ensuring accurate classification of accounts, and overseeing monthly reconciliation processes. You will verify transaction postings, investigate discrepancies, supervise junior accounting staff, and ensure the general ledger balances with supporting documentation and reconciles with departmental budgets. Tuition and Student Fees Accounting – You will manage student tuition and fee accounting by recording revenue appropriately, tracking student payments, and managing student account receivables. You will reconcile tuition revenue with enrollment records, manage payment plans, handle refunds, and ensure accurate tuition accounting in compliance with educational accounting standards. Grant and Research Funding Management – You will manage grant and research funding accounting by tracking grant budgets, monitoring expenditures against grant terms, and ensuring compliance with funder requirements. You will coordinate with research teams, manage grant reconciliations, and support grant reporting requirements and compliance documentation. Departmental Budget Management – You will oversee departmental budget management by monitoring spending across academic and administrative departments, tracking expenditures against budgets, and reporting budget performance.
